Granada received us late in the day. The bus dumped my brother and me out after a very long ride through the beautiful mountainous countryside from Madrid - our flight arriving just a few days after the bombing. The airport’s glass curtain walls were blown out and it was an eerie start to our journey. Finally in Granada, we wandered the dark and cloistered medieval streets looking for our hidden hostel. It was magical. Exploring the next morning was so exciting - to the Alhambra and all around. Of course, I was more interested in the neighborhood context near the base of this great fortress. Adding color to this one really brings the warmth of the Andalusian sun on terracotta roofs to my mind.I made the ink drawing while traveling with my brother over holiday break in 2007; the travel was a generous gift from the architect I worked for in Savannah Georgia. I used watercolor to interpret and enliven the drawing during pandemic quarantine, Spring 2020.

I'm excited to bring nearly 100 of my architectural Travel Sketches, created in mostly Italy, but also Switzerland, France, Spain, Greece, Hungary and Czech Republic from 1998 - 2012, into a Collection: lines drawn on site now illuminated by watercolor. Together, they reveal my personal evolution in architectural travel sketching and offer a piece of travel art that can remind you of your own memories in place, invite you into these spaces with your own experiential vision.
