LA CRESCENTA / MONTROSE / La Cañada / Flintridge lie along the foothills surrounding the northern edge of the Los Angeles basin in a unqiue confluence of streets and topography revealed in my Topographic Watercolor Blocks Map.
The lively conglomeration of communities nestles into the Crescenta Valley, hemmed in by the San Gabriel Mountains and Angeles National Forest, San Rafael Hill and Verdugo Mountains. The Foothill Freeway strikes through the valley at a diagonal, setting the patterns for the NW/SE streets. Cross streets run directly north/south making a dazzling patchwork of blocks shaped like parallelograms! The mountains are featured prominently in this Topographic Watercolor Map by hand-drawn hachures following the contours of the mountain slopes that rise up from the valley all around. The blocks are painted in a variety of warm orange tones recalling the ubiquitous California poppies that grace the hillsides.
