The Native American legend of Mount Timpanogos makes it one of the sign post peaks on the Wasatch Range in central Utah. If you look closely at the ridge line, you may see an “Indian” princess lying on her back, her chin at the far left, her delicate chin lifted in rest. Her neck, a dip, and her body following the relatively flat ridge line.
The MOUNTAINS Collection, and this piece, is an exploration of brush + line, using the metaphorical form of MOUNTAIN to see how the marks of paintbrush and pen or pencil, with their contrasting textures, can work together to model the tactile surfaces of land.
The mountains are rendered in fields of fine black ink lines that draw out the folds and recesses of the range. Deep blues and blacks lap up the slopes, imitating the texture of the Wasatch Bench in watercolor. The populated valley below in light blue-grey staccato brush marks.
