I love the complexity and density of historic cities, especially this beautiful city on the Tennessee River, nestled among the Appalachian Mountains. It's fascinating to roam with your eye over the streets and mountain landscape of Chattanooga, abstracted into a figure/ground, or block, plan.

The city grid lies at the center of the map-drawing, with Walden's Ridge to the north, Missionary Ridge hemming in on the east, Lookout Mountain in the southwest corner and Raccoon Mountain tying down the northwest corner.
